Copyright

Copyright is the protection and security of anything from a song to catchy phrase, but not the idea by itself. You need to have concrete evidence such as a mock up or a prototype of your idea to follow through with the process. An important thing to keep in mind is that you HAVE to have original work, anything taken from someone would be a crime that no one wants to deal with so make sure you have supporting documentation that reveals evidence of authentication. After you think you have the next million dollar idea get a request form and determine the exact category of the work you've done. If you are unsure about what it falls under there is a list available at The U.S Copyright office OR you can request a list bye calling their main office. Once you have your information sorted out, request a U.S Trademark Application which can be found online or at their offices. If you are serious about your work there is a twenty dollar filling fee which should be sent with your forms. After sending your forms in it may take as many as eight months to receive approval, so just kick back and hang tight for the results. If there are ANY complications with these steps just contact The U.S Copyright Office.

i found this great video on youtube.com for further understanding.
